Tribunal updates: Edo guber tribunal accepts exhibits from Ize-Iyamu and PDP
Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal continued sitting in Benin City today by admitting in evidence, 2,531copies of INEC forms EC8A used in the September 28 2016 governorship polls in the state.
The forms being the unit result sheets of all the 18 local government areas of the state were tendered by the Lead counsel for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Osagie Ize- Iyamu, Mr Yusuf Alli, SAN.
He also told the court that the petitioners have 2,531 copies of INEC form EC8A for all the 18 local governments to be tendered as well as voters’ registers for two out of the 18 local governments.
Ali added that the voters’ registers for the remaining 16 local governments are yet to be sorted out by both parties as he  prayed the court to grant the parties extra two days to sort out those of the remaining 16 local governments.
While the tribunal accepted the documents and marked them as exhibits, it however adjourned sitting toThursday, January 19, 2017 to enable parties sort out voters’ registers of the remaining local governments.
The tribunal chairman, Mr Justice Ahmed Badamasi in his order said the petitioners will on Thursday continue with the tendering of documents.
As at press time Monday, the INEC forms EC8A for six local governments have been tendered, admitted as evidence and marked exhibits by the court.
The affected local governments and the forms from their units are Akoko-Edo (142), Egor (170), Etsako Central, (78), Igueben (46), Etsako East (78) and Etsako West (126).
The Peoples Democratic Party and its candidate in the said election, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu are challenging the declaration of Governor Godwin Obaseki of the All Peoples Congress as the winner of the governorship election.
Obaseki was declared the winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) with a total of 319,483 votes, against 253,173 votes scored by the PDP candidate.
